Continent in Crisis
Above, across and under Australia’s land and sea mass, the CSIRO employs a vast array of both simple and highly sophisticated technology to monitor the changing face of our environment.
As this one hour television documentary with Dr. David Smith shows, we are indeed a continent in crisis but in helping to define the scope of our problems, the work of the CSIRO is also pointing the way to an integrated approach to solving them.
Edge of the Abyss
Some of Australia’s deepest and least surveyed waters lie just beyond its continental shelf.
Presented by Dr. David Smith, this one hour television documentary follows the CSIRO teams who are manipulating a squadron of deep submersibles to bring biological science face to face with the still unknown creatures of our deeps.

Major Australian companies are finding that by taking action to shrink their waste streams, they are using their resources more efficiently and reducing the licensing costs of their solid, liquid and atmospheric discharges.
Their cleaner production is indeed producing clear profit.
Resources Remade
In supporting the reduction of wastes directed to landfill, The National Kerbside Taskforce is cooperating with industry and the community to set significant and achievable targets for recycling a wide range of household wastes.
Overall, Australians’ access to and acceptance of household recycling is expanding dramatically but more progress must be made in developing self supporting markets for recycled products.
